Department of AYUSH & District Administration Organize Seminar on Medicinal Plant Conservation & Entrepreneurship in Kishtwar

Kishtwar, March 18, 2025: The Department of AYUSH, Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with the District Administration Kishtwar and JK State Medicinal Plants Board, successfully organized a District-Level Seminar on Medicinal Plant Conservation, Cultivation, and Entrepreneurship at the New DC Office Complex, Kishtwar.

The event was held under the close supervision of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Shavan (JKAS), with Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Sh. Pawan Kotwal (JKAS) gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Key Highlights of the Seminar:

Expert Talks: Resource persons from AYUSH Department, including Dr. Shabir and Dr. Muzaffar Mintoo, discussed the economic potential of medicinal plants like Ashwagandha, Kutki, Kuth, and Pooshkarmool.

Ethnobotany Insights: Dr. Opender Surmal, Lecturer at GDC Kishtwar, elaborated on the importance of medicinal plants in traditional medicine.

Success Stories: Progressive farmers Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmed and Jabbar Singh shared their experiences in commercial medicinal plant cultivation.

The seminar aimed to boost awareness, promote sustainable farming, and encourage entrepreneurship in the medicinal plant sector, highlighting its role in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and economic development.
