Kupwara, May 19: As part of its ongoing community outreach and legal literacy campaign, Kupwara Police today organized a comprehensive awareness programme on the newly enacted criminal laws — Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) — at My New School, Dragmulla.
The session was chaired by Shri Javed Ahmad (JKPS) and featured a panel of legal experts who elaborated on key reforms and structural changes brought about by the new legislations. The programme focused on three critical themes:
Victim-centric justice mechanisms, ensuring faster and more empathetic handling of criminal cases,
Cybercrime awareness, including preventive measures and legal safeguards relevant to students in the digital era, and
Drug abuse prevention, addressing its legal consequences and socio-health impact.

Over 100 students and staff members attended the programme and actively participated in discussions and interactive Q&A sessions. The event also saw the presence of DSP Probationer Mr. Raghav and Incharge Dragmulla Mr. Bilal Ahmad.
Speaking on the occasion, the officers encouraged the students to be informed and responsible citizens and to disseminate the knowledge gained within their communities. Kupwara Police reiterated its commitment to fostering community-police cooperation and empowering youth through legal education and meaningful engagement.
